The Project

Project Background

Chemical Treatment Services (CTS) is a Belfast based water treatment company, providing chemicals, equipment and consultancy services, and are currently involved in many large projects for large beverage companies, Hospitals (Renal Dialysis, CSSD etc.), Pharmaceutical Companies, Electronics Manufacturers and Local Government Councils in Northern Ireland.

Biznet have recently worked with CTS, to develop a mobile computing solution, allowing CTS to monitor and report Legionella Risk Management, for Belfast City Council.

Belfast City Council (BCC) wanted to award the contract for Legionella Risk Management, to an organisation offering a web based solution, ensuring that the appropriate council staff would be able to react promptly to any Legionella Risk, across the 102 council properties.

Biznet initiated a Requirements Gathering phase, with CTS, producing high-level Use-Case models and indicative screen designs, to confirm the approach. Sample Use Case Models are presented at the end of this Case Study.

Biznet developed an initial proof of concept, GUI, to demonstrate to BCC and CTS, a suggested approach for the recording and reporting of the tests associated with Legionella Risk Management.

Based on the feed back from the initial proof of concept, Biznet then produced a working prototype for consideration by both CTS and BCC.

Challenges

A key requirement for both CTS and BCC was the need for a truly mobile solution. Test results needed to be captured in the field, along with signatures, to record confirmation of a site visit.

Biznet Solution

Biznet developed a PDA based application, ensuring that CTS could record electronic signatures from BCC staff, to confirm that a site visit had been made. These signatures were then synchronised with the main database, ensuring that both site visit details and test results, were immediately accessible to authorised users, immediately, via a secure web site.

Given the number of buildings maintained by Belfast City Council, it is essential that the Property Officer within the council, can be kept up to date with the latest finding from site visits, carried out by CTS. Biznet introduced SMS functionality into the system, ensuring that the BCC Property Officer receives immediate notification of sites visits, made by CTS engineers.

The solution provided, ensures that CTS engineers can use PDA's to record test data and the signature of BCC staff, to confirm a site visit has been made.
